The Red Hook Space
The Red Hook Space is our attempt to create an environment within which creative and worshipful endeavors can take place. One of the more wonderful aspects of being created in the image of God is our freedom and ability to create with God. We are given immense potential to use our gifts and talents for the betterment of the human condition, for the uplifting of our culture and society, and for the worship of the God who vouchsafes to be present with us always and within all of the human condition.The part of Brooklyn we find ourselves is full of creative people of all types. One aspect of the Space will be to provide a place for artistic people who wish to discover in new ways the creative potential God encourages in us. How does our Faith infuse and influence our creative work? This is the primary question we wish to dive into.
The Red Hook Space will not be simply cheap work and gallery/performance space. It will be a place were creative work can be done with the support of a community of faith and within a mix of many different kinds of people with similar intentions. We will create a variety of means to help us better understand how our Faith influences our art.
The Space will also provide a venue within which we invite the greater community (our neighbors, family, and friends) to be present with us and see through our creative endeavors the imago Dei (the image of God).
A second and perhaps more foundational aspect of the Space is our intention to use the place for a worshiping community. Imago Dei in Red Hook will be a part of the Space to foster and encourage new experiences of the ancient Traditions of the Christian Faith in their Anglican expression. A creative and worshipful endeavor will draw us into the presence of God and with the great cloud of witnesses - those who have gone before us and who will come after us. Through the Sacraments of the Church and her rich liturgies, we gather to honor God and to discover anew the refreshing of God's Spirit for renewal and strength. As we worship, we are renewed and transformed to bear the image of God for those around us in our everyday lives.
